Blue Ray Disc Players

Can they play movies that aren’t blu-ray or hd?
And which one can or can’t do this?

Does a blu ray disc player need a hdtv 1080 p to play high def blu ray discs? Or will a blu ray player play blu ray discs on a normal television?

I have a samsung p1 500 blu ray disc player which has a usb port. . . . the question is if i can play videos that are in my usb stick and how. . . When i place the usb stick in the port it says usb connected but does not du anything else

I really want to buy one but I cannot afford either because of my income and current living situation. Although if I could afford it I would buy a blu ray an hd tv. When the hell are the ridiculous prices going to ease up and start going down?

Where can i buy a good blu-ray disc player for a good price?
My dad wants one for Christmas. . im trying to purchase one for about $200 because of my budget.
