Anyone Have Screenshots From A Dvd Upconverted On A Blu-ray Player Compared To An Actual Blu-ray Disc?

I already know that the Blu-Rays will look better no matter what, I was just curious if anyone had side-by-side comparisions of a DVD upconverted by Blu-Ray and the Blu-Ray disc itself.

  1. This site has some,http://forum.blu-ray.com/
but think night and day, the dvd upscale will have a lot of grain, no detail, and lots of noise.
The blu-ray, perfect, you could pick up every detail.

  2. There are some comparison images on AVS Forum (last link)… but the images at the 1st and 2nd links (the first is Blu-ray vs DVD and the second is DVD vs HD DVD … but Blu-ray and HD DVD are almost identical) are one of the most effective ways to see the difference. The vertical white line can be dragged left or right to show the difference.
HD is clearer/sharper … but not necessarily by as much as many people expect, and can vary with the movie … as indicated by the “Tier” system of rating Blu-ray quality (3rd link).
Blu-ray players, as you state, upconvert DVD, BUT quality varies. The PS3 and other Sony players are mediocre upconverters relative to, for example, some of the Pioneer players (e.g. BDP-51FD). That said, the differences seen at the links are likely slightly different than Blu-ray vs upconverted DVD … but won’t be greater.
