I would think so because my PS3 is a blu-ray player and i watch regular DVDs on it

Yes, not only will they play DVDs, but most of them will upscale (or upconvert) regular DVDs so they look better than on a normal DVD player. You must use the HDMI cable to take advantage of this upscaling, however.

Yes, otherwise PS3 owners wouldn’t be able to play their copies of Guitar Hero II and they’d be very angry. Haha.

Regular dvd’s use a red laser while blu-ray discs use a blue laser. The two are incompatible. But most blu-ray player manufacturers will include both kinds of lasers so they are “backwards compatible”. Much like how dvd player manufacturers include an extra laser to read cd’s, so they are “backwards compatible” to that format as well.
It would be idiotic for blu-ray player manufacturers not to make them “backwards compatible” with regular DVD’s, but just check the box to make sure.
