I have a samsung p1 500 blu ray disc player which has a usb port. . . . the question is if i can play videos that are in my usb stick and how. . . When i place the usb stick in the port it says usb connected but does not du anything else

I really want to buy one but I cannot afford either because of my income and current living situation. Although if I could afford it I would buy a blu ray an hd tv. When the hell are the ridiculous prices going to ease up and start going down?
